Medicinal plants (certain parts of plants or extracts obtained from plants) have been used for therapeutic purposes in human beings and animals.
This course focuses on herbal medicines prepared at home for symptomatic treatment of simple diseases (e.g. common cold). The course explains the purposes of using herbal medicines, how to use and prepare them, and their potential harms. This course mainly offers information on linden, mint, sage, hibiscus, coltsfoot, echinacea and thyme, i.e. the most commonly used herbs for therapeutic purposes.

Week 2. Effects and preparation of Tilia sp. (linden) and Mentha sp. (mint)
Week 3. Effects and preparation of Salvia sp. (sage) and thyme
Week 4. Effects and preparation of Althea officinalis (hibiscus), Tussilago farfara (coltsfoot) and Echinacea sp.
